A.R.E. Pacific Northwest Region
Recommended new model for managing the Pacific Northwest Region as presented to the Region Core Team by the Transition Team at the annual Core Team meeting held October 18, 2003 at Nanaimo B.C.
The Issue
On October 18th, 2003 the AREPNW Core Team Transition Team (Bill Wellman, chair) presented a new model for region management.
The region has consistently worn out its 3 Coordinators in the last ten years.
The region needs a new system that will sustain itself, bring in new volunteers, and give individuals a structure that can train new volunteers and empower them for success.
The new model will put all members of the Core Team in charge of the region!!!
Members of the Administration team will take over managerial duties of the region. These duties were formerly supervised or performed by the Region Coordinators.
Two new administrative team members will be needed. (2 year terms each)
Former coordinators will remain members of the Core Team and guide and advise Captains responsible for various duties ad needed, acting as “tribal elders” [Bill Wellman's phrase]
It will be assumed that Captains who need help will ask for assistance or advice from other members of the Core Team.
If an area or assignment needs assistance, a focus group designed to solve the problem or improve the operation of the project will be implemented.
Rationale
Current Area teams members (Olympia, Portland, Vancouver BC, and Puget Sound) will be encouraged to move into the Core Team and eventually onto the Adminsitrative Captain positions when they feel ready to take on additional assignments.
Tasks previously performed by the Region Coordinators can be performed by others with the help and support of the rest of the Core Team and former leaders.
The new model will require communication of concerns, successes and questions. Communication will transpire across the Core Team among all those interested in the success of region activities.
All Core Team members have the same investment to promote the legacy of the Edgar Cayce Readings in all projects before them.
Team Captains
With the guidance of the Admin Team Director (previously the Admin Team Chair) the Team Captains will act as the region governing unit. Due to the fact that Region Coordinators have historically found themselves overworked and stretched beyond comfortable limits, the Core Team has voted to distribute the work of running the Region among many teams who will report to their respective Team Leaders. The position of Region Coordinator will be eliminated.
Members of the Core Team who are not currently elected to serve on the Administrative Team, will be responsible for monitoring the Administration Team's progress and supporting, assisting or coaching Admin Team Members in projects that may need special attention.
